Puerto Limon was established by Christopher Columbus in 1502. Culturally distinct from the rest of the country, the province and city of the same name show a rich and strong Caribbean influence.

If you want to experience nature in the tropics, this is the place. Try a jungle canopy tour by zip line, or ride through the rain forest on a specially designed tractor pulled wagon. How about a boat ride through the canals of Tortuguero National Park? Perhaps a canoe ride to a sloth sanctuary is more appealing. River tubing or horse back riding? Native villages, coffee, sugarcane, pineapple, and banana plantations are all on the list of places to visit.
