Jewel of the Seas

Cartagena, Columbia

Day 5: Friday, January 23, 11:30 am - 7 pm (docked)
Established in 1533, Cartagena (pronounced car-te-henya) is one of the oldest cities in the new world. A centre of Spanish settlement and administration for centuries the city has developed into a major city in modern Columbia, boasting some 1.2 million inhabitants. A marvelously picturesque city with lots to do. Spend some time absorbing Spanish colonial history, visiting the Inquisition Palace, (yes, the Inquisition came to the New World), Fort San Felipe de Barajas, or Fort San Jose de Bocachica. Shop for Columbian emeralds and local handicrafts at the Dungeons, once a military barracks and ammunition store. Perhaps a beach break or a mangrove eco-tour is more to your liking.

Planning: Wikipedia Entry, Royal Caribbean Cartagena page, Columbian Real Estate Practices, FIABCI Columbia (in Spanish).
